A deadly Brooklyn shooting shook Crown Heights early Sunday morning when multiple gunmen opened fire inside a nightclub, leaving three people dead and nine others injured, according to the New York City Police Department.
Police said the gunfire erupted around 3:27 a.m. at the Taste Of The City Lounge, a club in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood. Officers responding to emergency calls found a chaotic and devastating scene inside the venue, where 12 people ranging from 19 to 61 years old had been struck by bullets.
Victims Identified by Age, Not Name
Police confirmed that two men, aged 27 and 25, were taken to a local hospital but later pronounced dead. Another victim, a 19-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Brooklyn shooting.
The nine surviving victims — six men and three women — were also transported to hospitals in the area. Their injuries have been described as non-life-threatening. The victims’ identities have not yet been released as police continue their investigation.
Mayor Eric Adams Condemns Gun Violence
At a late-morning press briefing, New York City Mayor Eric Adams strongly condemned the violence.
“Gun violence of this magnitude, it really scars a community and a city,” Adams said.
The mayor stressed that solving this Brooklyn shooting requires community cooperation.
“We need your help if you were inside the club, if you heard individuals talking about this shooting, if you witnessed someone fleeing the location,” Adams added. “Every piece of information will allow us to put the puzzle together to solve this crime.”
Police Commissioner Details the Incident
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed new details during the press conference.
“Police recovered 42 shell casings from multiple guns at the scene,” Tisch said, noting that investigators believe as many as four shooters were involved.
She further added that the incident “preliminarily appears to be gang-related.”
Police also recovered a firearm from a separate location and are examining whether it is connected to the Brooklyn shooting.
Ongoing Investigation
So far, no arrests have been made, and police continue to search for the suspected shooters. The NYPD is urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
