Irving’s recruitment took off after a stellar summer on the grassroots circuit. His national ranking jumped to No. 104 overall, and his scholarship total surpassed 15 offers from major programs.

“There’s a lot of schools calling,” Irving told Cardinal Authority in late July. “They’re all showing a lot of interest. If they are calling me, they are showing a lot of interest.”

Louisville’s pursuit of Irving is relatively new but steady. Assistant coach Ronnie Hamilton first watched him in April during a workout, then again at the Section 7 event in Arizona in late June, and at the Puma event in Bryan, Texas, in late July.

“They have told me that the program is the best fit for me,” Irving said of Louisville. “They said they want me at Louisville. They think I can come in there and help their program a lot.”

Recruiting analysts have taken notice as well. At the Puma event in late July, 247Sports national analyst Brandon Jenkins described Irving as one of the “best big men in the class.”

According to Jenkins, Irving’s blend of size and athleticism makes him a major X-factor. He impacts games as both a lob threat and a rim protector while also showing touch from behind the arc. Over the past ten months, his game has taken major strides, though his greatest asset remains his long-term upside.
